LifeSTEPS Executive Director, Beth Southorn, was recently featured on KFBK Morning News with Cristina Mendonsa and Sam Shane in a special interview with Mark Demsky. The conversation highlighted the collaborative efforts between LifeSTEPS, USA Properties Fund, and the JB Brown Fund to support aging adults in affordable housing communities across California.
During the interview, Beth emphasized a critical, yet often overlooked, component of senior health care: the ability to maintain a safe, clean, and functional home environment. As Beth shared, “The growing struggle many older adults face to maintain their homes is directly connected to their physical and mental health—and it’s something we can help solve.”
The JB Brown Fund: Helping Seniors “Age in Place”
The JB Brown Fund, founded by USA Properties Fund and administered by LifeSTEPS, is dedicated to helping low-income older adults age in place—safely, comfortably, and with dignity. Among its many initiatives, the fund currently supports:
-
A dedicated RN Program serving the greater Sacramento area, providing accessible preventive health care to seniors.
-
An Emergency Assistance Fund, which offers financial education and emergency support for eviction prevention, medical bills, transportation, food, and critical mobility equipment like wheelchairs and grab bars—essentials that help reduce hospitalizations and avoid premature transitions to specialized care facilities.
Spring Senior Drive: Join Us in Supporting Over 200 Seniors
Right now, the JB Brown Fund is in the middle of its Spring Senior Drive, aiming to provide over 200 low-income seniors with care packages filled with essential cleaning, hygiene, and household supplies. These everyday items make a huge difference in the quality of life for seniors on fixed incomes.
We’re inviting you to join us in this effort! Donations are urgently needed to make this spring initiative a success.
