JB Brown Fund celebrates 10th anniversary Oct. 7 with a silent auction and more!

The JB Brown Fund is celebrating its 10-year anniversary at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the outdoor fountain area at USA Properties Fund’s headquarters, 3200 Douglas Blvd. in Roseville. The two-hour event features speakers – including JB Brown Fund recipients – a hosted food truck, and a silent in-person and online auction with proceeds benefiting the organization.

All money raised from the auction benefit the JB Brown Fund, a partnership between USA Properties Fund and LifeSTEPS, a nonprofit that provides social services at many of USA Properties’ affordable family and senior apartment communities.

Auction items include original artwork depicting images of Sacramento using the alphabet to gift baskets with various themes, from Family Fun Night to Golf to Soccer, complete with Sacramento Republic FC items and tickets. A custom cake of your choosing and a basket featuring educational toys and games and a $25 gift certificate from Lakeshore Learning Store will also be available.

LifeSTEPS’ September employee of the month: Sylvia Lopez

Due to her strong work ethic, personal integrity and unwavering commitment to excellence, Sylvia Lopez is LifeSTEPS’ September employee of the month. Since joining LifeSTEPS in 2017, Sylvia’s programming has fostered strong relationships and connections, creating inclusive and welcoming communities for residents of all ages.

“From the after-school program to case management to food donations, Sylvia’s creativity and passion has raised the bar in promoting our programs and services. Our residents, property managers and LifeSTEPS’ staff are extremely lucky to have her on our team!” said Rosa Hernandez, Regional Director of Social Services.

Bridging the Digital Divide

Thanks to the California Community Reinvestment Corporation’s (CCRC) Bridging the Digital Divide program, 50 LifeSTEPS residents recently received tablets designed for seniors, also known as GrandPads. Our staff trained each senior to use the device, which will foster increased socialization opportunities, access to healthcare through telehealth services and online support from family and friends. Many older adults faced isolation during COVID-19, and we’re so thankful for Mary Kaiser and the CCRC for their partnership to help residents of affordable housing stay healthy and thrive through technology.

After-school program helps LifeSTEPS residents beat the summer learning slide

Our Big Fun in the Sun after-school program is helping LifeSTEPS residents beat the summer learning slide! Check out Villa Serena’s literacy station, created by Program Coordinator Sylvia, which features our summer books and an art gallery displaying our students’ art work. “Our summer reading curriculum focuses on diversity and inclusion, and our young learners love the crafts, games and educational activities built around each book,” said Sylvia.
